Romantic & Intimate Santorini Wedding

You are here: Home / Real Destination Weddings / Romantic & Intimate Santorini Wedding
by Alexandra Hillyard

It’s not every day that one gets their dream wedding – especially when it’s set atop an idyllic Greek island like Santorini.   Sasha & Morteza, rounded up their guests and jetted off to the dreamy island to say their ‘I do’s’ in early May, when the weather was perfect!

With the ceremony perfectly placed between views of the archipelagos, white-washed villages peaking through the hillside, and the Aegean sea dazzling in the distance, they embraced all that the natural beauty that the island has to offer.

Light pink roses traveled all the way from Holland and were featured on the wedding cake and in the bride’s blushing bouquet. They also made an appearance on the simple yet elegant arch where the bride and groom had their first dance at sunset.

This was the bride’s dream wedding, so they pulled all the stops!  From the diamond tiara, to the enormous fireworks, and Dolce and Gabbana shoes – it was her fairytale come to life!

Q&A with the Bride & Groom

How did you meet?

We met in Istanbul by introduction through a mutual friend.

What is your proposal story?

He planned a dinner with some of our close friends the night before out trip to Maldives. During the dinner he blindfolded me at the restaurant, surprised me with a ring and asked me to marry him in front of our friends.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding vision and style

We had our wedding in the most romantic island of Santorini late in the month of May when the weather is perfect.  We were surrounded by the traditional white and blue colors of the buildings and wonderful local fresh food, drinks, dancing and very elegant guests with a touch of style.

Tell us about your attire.

The brides wedding gown was a special order from a famous Ukrainian designer and tailored in house in Kiev.  The shoes were hand picked from Dolce Gabbana, and a tiara with diamonds from Chaumet.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning?

The most important was to have our wedding at a romantic and very memorable place for years to remember.  Of course the best venue for our celebrity guests.

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

Wedding flowers in light pink roses imported from Holland matching the brides beautiful dress and brown eyes.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

It was a classic white cake with pink roses and a hand made figure of bride and groom dancing.

What did you do for favors?

We gave each of our guests a white gold key to keep for opening the door to the memory of this wonderful day for years to come.

Please describe any personal details.

The brides flower bouquet was hand made by a famous local artist representing the origins of bride and groom.

Did you include any family traditions?

Yes the special Ukrainian tradition of breaking bread and stealing the bride by bridesmaids dressed as bandits.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Yes to have a good wedding planner.  And check everything at least one week before to make sure all is in order and in accordance to your expectation.

What was the best part of having a destination wedding?

The best part was the most romantic and unforgettable island of Santorini.

What was the biggest challenge when planning your destination wedding?

The biggest challenge was the accommodation for guests and the menus.
