A Beautiful Catholic Destination Wedding in Maui

Melissa and Matt’s destination wedding in Maui proves that even when getting married away from home, you can still maintain classic and traditional elements with a modern touch.  This couple chose Maui based on the geographical location, and not necessarily the beach.  It was the perfect meet-in-the-middle location for guests who would be traveling from America and Australia.  They had a very beautiful and traditional ceremony at the Maria Lanakila Catholic Church,  followed by an elegant reception in The Grand Anuhea Room at Hotel Wailea.   Unlike the more typical outdoor destination wedding, this reception venue was indoors but had soaring windowed walls that offered spectacular and dramatic views.

Real Destination Wedding Advice from the Bride

What was the inspiration/theme behind your wedding day?

We wanted a classic yet modern theme to our wedding, with a few tropical elements thrown in.  I really liked the idea of a fairly neutral palate with pops of autumnal colors for the flowers to bring it to life.

How would you describe the process of planning a destination wedding in Maui?

A lot to think about!! Especially planning a destination wedding for guests from both Australia and America.

What was the best decision you made for your destination wedding?

Having it at Hotel Wailea where everything was all in one place!

What has the highlight of your wedding day?

Our ceremony was definitely the highlight for us, it was a wonderful time of expressing our love for each other and our faith in front of our closest friends and family.

What is your advice to other couples planning their own destination wedding right now?

It’s never too late to get started. You may think you have a lot of time for things, but the list grows exponentially as the day gets closer so anything you can tick off is worth doing straight away.
