Inspired by the lovely shades of purple and gold and the beautiful beach setting of Punta Cana, Tia and Bennie’s destination wedding in Dominican Republic was breathtaking. Surrounded by their very closest friends and family, they celebrated in true Caribbean style with lively music, chic wedding details, natural backdrops, and a whole lot of love. From locally-sourced fire dancers, to a rap battle between the groom and the bride’s brother, there were memorable moments to be found throughout Tia and Bennie’s special day. Not to mention a ton of gorgeous details and handmade elements like the bridesmaid bouquets and stationery.

Real Destination Wedding Advice from the Bride
What was your favorite wedding day detail?
Our favorite wedding day details was definitely the setting! The beach backdrop was amazing. Also, small personalized items like the groomsmen socks, the bridal bouquet and headpiece, as well as the tablescapes were high on the list!
Did you have any DIY details?
I cheated a bit on my DIY. After spending hours gluing and cutting paper for the wedding invitations, I decided I needed to work smarter not harder! For the bridesmaids’ bouquets, I ordered pre-arranged silk bouquets from afloral.com and then wrapped the stems in a gold ribbon so that it fit the wedding color scheme. I also made the wedding programs and welcome brochures for our guests with the use of our home printer and cardstock.
What would you say are some of your favorite wedding day memories?
My favorite wedding day memories would be seeing my husband shed a tear at the altar (he swore he wasn’t going to cry), the reception dance party with family and friends, and the impromptu rap battle that happened at the end between my husband and brother! We also had fire dancers from the resort do a performance that everyone thoroughly enjoyed!
What advice would you give to other couples planning a destination wedding?
As hard as it may be, you HAVE to do what you as the couple wants. Make sure that every element of your wedding is a reflection of you. At the end of the day, all of your guests are there to support you and your nuptials so stay focused on that. They want to see you happy. Also, be sure to take everything in on the big day because it will go fast! Lastly, don’t sweat the small stuff, something is bound to happen. Just take it in stride and don’t let it ruin your celebration. All of the worrying leading up to the event was so unnecessary! Everything came together perfectly!
