Brianna and Kevin had a destination wedding that was as sweet and sparkling as their love story. This duo met in Junior High where Kevin was a football player and Brianna was a cheerleader, so by the time they tied the knot, they had been dating for 10 years! When it came time to make their relationship official, they rounded up 28 of their closest family and friends and jetted off to the beautiful beaches of Puerto Morelos, Mexico. Their wedding at Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort was overflowing with shimmering gold and blush-pink décor– a stunning contrast to the turquoise ocean in the background. From the gorgeous oceanfront gazebo to Brianna’s chic lace-accented gown, this destination wedding had no shortage of drool-worthy details. A special thanks goes out to the talented BohemiaDelMar, for capturing and sharing all the details of this beautiful wedding. Enjoy!
Real Destination Wedding Inspiration from the Bride
Why did you choose to have your destination wedding at Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort?
We fell in love with the Riviera Maya, Mexico area and after researching numerous locations, we choose our venue because of its excellent reviews and stunning wedding decor.
What were your sources of inspiration when choosing your colors, flowers, cake, etc..?
Our sources of inspiration included a lot of help from Pinterest, our wedding coordinator’s expertise, and a Bohemian flare.
What was your favorite wedding detail?
My favorite wedding detail was the lace on my wedding dress. I love lace detailing, and my dress was a combination of comfort (that was important to me) and class.
Was there any tradition that you skipped or a tradition that you put a “destination wedding” spin on?
To make us kiss during dinner, we gave guests custom designed Maracas to shake! It was so fun! We also did a “First Look”.
What was the most memorable thing to happen on your wedding day?
Months before our wedding, we took dance classes to choreograph a surprise bride/groom first dance. We started out with a romantic rumba to our favorite: Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” and then busted out a fast swing dance! It was magical having our guests holding sparklers and cheering around us as we danced!
What was your favorite part of having a destination wedding?
Our favorite part of having a destination wedding was spending a week celebrating with our closest family and friends! We planned a few events for guests to mingle during the week such as a welcome-party and dinner.
What was the biggest challenge in planning your destination wedding?
The biggest challenge in planning was envisioning the layout of the decor and set-up without ever visiting the resort beforehand. So we spent a few nights at our dining room table setting up the table-decor and imagining how it would all look!
What’s your advice to other couples planning a destination wedding?
Our advice is to be organized, plan within your budget (or try your best), and take in every moment! It goes by so fast!!
