Justine and Tommy were married on the beach outside of Secret Resorts in Playa Mujeres in a beautifully relaxed ceremony. It’s a shame more weddings aren’t executed with such a nuanced sense of style! Using the power of Playa Mujeres’ natural beauty to carry their greenery wedding aesthetic was such a smart choice by Justine and Tommy. White linens, simple bouquets bursting with lush greenery, and just a few simple pops of gold details here and there really complimented the deep, rich blue waters of Playa Mujeres. Like Justine said, “with that view, you don’t really need a theme!” And in this case, that’s absolutely true. See for yourself – the folks at 28 North Photography did a masterful job of capturing these lovebirds on their big day.
After they exchanged their vows and the sun started to go down, it was time to celebrate. I love that they kept the entire event cohesive and harmonious by holding the reception right there on the beach as well. With a lit up dancefloor, some sparklers and dainty string lights they quickly transformed the beach into a party. This destination wedding was beautiful from start to finish and I hope you enjoy all the details as much as I did!
Q&A with the Bride

How many people attended your greenery wedding in Playa Mujeres?
64
Did you choose a theme for your destination wedding in Playa Mujeres?
I wanted to keep it simple. So white tablecloths/chairs and greenery (all different greenery) for vases was my theme as we were on the beach. With that view you don’t really need a theme!
What was your favorite wedding detail?
Location! We got married and had our reception on the beach. We lucked out with beautiful weather and a beautiful sunset.
Was there any tradition that you skipped for your greenery wedding in Playa Mujeres?
Nope! We kept it traditional.
What was the most memorable part of your destination wedding?
We have a very fun group of friends- So our dance floor was pretty memorable.
What was your favorite part of having a destination wedding in Playa Mujeres?
Making a vacation out of the trip as well! Having our closest friends and family there made the trip that much more memorable.
What was the biggest challenge in planning your greenery wedding in Playa Mujeres?
Communicating with the wedding planner. When I met with her in person (Marcela) it was a whole different experience. The lag time on getting back with each other and the communication barrier was difficult over the internet for the months leading up to the wedding.
What’s your advice for other couples planning a destination wedding at Secrets Playa Mujeres?
Do your research! Get in touch with photographers/videographers way ahead of time to solidify someone you love. The resorts will charge for about everything you use so if you can bring stuff with you and check a bag on the plane, do it!
