Josh and Misa had a beautiful and intimate destination wedding at the White Orchid Beach House in Makena, Maui. I love how they kept it simple and classic with a blush and aqua color scheme that contrasted beautifully with the venue’s natural beauty. Joanna Tano was on hand to capture every detail including some absolutely stunning sunset beach wedding portraits that took my breath away.
Bridal Q&A:
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
My best friend and maid-of-honor was dating Josh’s brother (best man) and set us up. Josh proposed when he came for a surprise visit over New Year’s in Florida. He took me for a walk on the beach and got down on one knee. After I said “Yes!,” there were fireworks.
Tell us about your destination wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day?
Josh and I really wanted an intimate ceremony to share with just our closest friends and family. We kept it simple and classic.
How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?
We left all of the decorating to the White Orchid Weddings Team. They did an amazing job.
What were the florals like in your wedding?
The flowers played a very important part in the overall style of our wedding. We had white lilies, white hydrangeas, and white and pink roses. The flowers were a part of the ceremony arch, centerpieces, and bridal bouquets.
Did you personalize the day in any way?
One thing we personalized was the cake topper. We had one made with our little dog next to us. Another personal touch was the music playlist. The songs we picked all had a special meaning.
Let’s talk fashion. How did you choose your wedding day look?
Josh wanted something simple and classic that fit well so he went with a dark charcoal suit, white shirt and black tie. I chose a sheath dress with lots of lace and crystal details. My veil had matching details and a crystal hairpiece. The shoes are the blue Kiara embellished peep-toe pump by Mischka Badgley. I finished off the look with crystal tear drop earrings.
What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Our favorite part of the wedding was standing next to each other, holding hands and saying our vows. Our first dance was also pretty special.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The most special moment of our wedding day was seeing Josh get emotional during the ceremony. I could really tell how much I meant to him.
What’s your advice for other couples planning a destination wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. The day goes by really fast so try and enjoy every moment.
